How much confidence do you have in the combined efforts of this fivesome? On a scale from 1 to 10, I'd say I'm sitting at a negative 2. I looked at McCall and said, "This is scaring me."

At the beginning of the game, Dad and I commented that we like that Jerry seems to be more flexible in his substitutions thus far this year. It can be a very good thing. But I can't get behind line-ups like this. Don't get me wrong - I actually do like each of these five players - when they are used in the right context. And this context was not it.

Come on Jerry. We're counting on you to bring your A-game too.

The Mailman is no stranger to endorsing questionable footwear. Remember LA Gears? That was back when basketball shoes were simple. And unsafe. And cheesy.

His endorsements have never been limited to footwear though. You remember his most famous gig, right? Hardees.

And who can forget the Zion's Bank commercial with Mr. Steve Young? 'Don't babies dribble?' Such a classic.

The Mailman will always be a legend in this great state for his work both on and off the court. Heroes get remembered, but legends never die.

'Sap Fandom is Just Like Him - Steady

Whether you call him The Paperboy or The Workhorse - Paul Millsap is a P. I. M. P.

He's been playing ridiculous basketball and he's been a pleasure to watch. But amidst all the excitement, there is one thing that's really been bugging me. I've seen multiple Facebook statuses where people are declaring their Millsap love with pathetic statements like, "I was a Paul Millsap fan before anyone knew his name" or "I'll have it be known I'm not just a Paul Millsap bandwagon fan, I've seen his potential from the beginning" or "I loved Millsap even before he was a starter."

These comments are stupid to me. Have these people been living in a cave? Either that or they haven't interacted much with fellow Jazz fans. The vast majority of Jazz fans have always demonstrated a whole lotta love for the 'Sap. Long before he was a starter, he became a fan favorite. He works his tail off, and this has been noticed by many since day one. A Millsap bandwagon doesn't exist. It's not like the Boozer saga where you had people on and off that faster than CJ can rack up missed 3s. A Boozer bandwagon definitely exists. A Millsap one definitely does not.

Utah Jazz fans have loved Milly for years, and now it's time for the NBA to discover just what Jazz fans have always known - that Paul Millsap is a P. I. M. P.

Oh Alema and Big T...

I hate to say it but I just don't like our pre/post game and half time shows. Maybe it's the set? Or the guys? I am sad to say I have never liked it. And to make matters worse, Alema and Big T are both in a need of a stylist. Does anyone remember their suits on Saturday? Alema with the bright green tie and Big T with the eye catching (in a bad way) vest and pocket scarf- seriously they need some help! They do look better tonight, though. For some reason I am not entertained by them. I know they have a lot of good information but I compare them to the TNT guys- now they are entertaining! The only thing that brightens it up a bit is when Booner joins them. I do love Booner. I guess I will keep hoping that Booner joins them more often!

Sorry Mal and Call- I know you like the guys. :)

I will miss seeing this tough play BUT......
I can't tell you how excited I have been to hear Matt Harpring call the games with Boler. He is a natural. It is fun to hear his perspective and bits of insight into the Jazz locker room. Oh how cool it would be to be a fly on the wall in the locker room..... Sorry, just imagined it. Anyway, tonight he mentioned a bet he had with D-Will in his final years stating each dunk he made Deron would give him 100 bucks. As if to say Harp's legs couldn't do anymore. Let's all hope Deron extends this bet to Raja because I for one would love to see his 34 years young (as Boler would say) legs dunk it. Come on Raja, show us your stuff!

1. Welcome back to Meyer Jazz Talk! Now, how good did that feel hearing that? Let's just say it sure felt good typing it.

2. Welcome new bloggers. We hope to make this a collaborative forum - anyone in the family can contribute! If you wanna write and you have any ounce of Meyer (or Tovey) blood in you, let us know. We'll get you set up.

3. A big welcome to the new Utah Jazz squad members. Since we last wrote in 2008, there's been a lot of change. So much change that the Chicago Bulls now resemble that old line-up better than our current roster - well almost.

So welcome Raja, Elson, Evans, Jefferson, and Watson. Good to have you. (P.S. I just looked up the current roster over at utahjazz.com. Is C.J. really still on our team? Really? Ugh.)

4. Gordon Hayward gets his own welcome. A very warm welcome. And you better believe I'll be calling him Woody all year. I sure hope the nickname sticks.

The Point of Hope Foundation

Deron is a part of the Point of Hope Foundation, and for the second year in a row, he held a golf tournament to raise money for the Pingree Center. A big thanks to Laurel for thinking of us and letting us come volunteer!! :)

Devin Harris was quite a guy- very personable and talkative. (Possibly because someone actually knew his name here in Utah)

Meg had been waiting ALL day for Paul to show up, and to my surprise, he was very nice and personable. (An unusual attitude, considering he likes to lay low during the season) And of course, Ronnie didn't let us down with his great personality. BUT, someone needs to teach Milly how to golf! ;)Either that, or he should follow Ronnie when he said, "Oh no I aint golfin' today, I decided to save myself the embarrassement."

CJ wasn't golfing either. He did make sure to turn his hat for the pic!

The man of the hour... He wasn't too happy about his performance on the course, so we had to pull a few teeth to snatch a pic.

Of course, we had to get a pic with the famous Korver. But, you'd think a guy like him would wear actual golf attire...

Tyrone was quite the golfer!! Hole in one on a par four, sounds pretty good, right?

Big T has always been loved here at the Meyer household!

After looking at this picture, i wonder why i didn't ask Tom Kirkland to take the picture, rather than to be in it.

Jason Terry of the Mav's was a nice guy, thanks to Laurel for this one ;)

Ronnie Price... STUD! Meg had been worried all day that she wore the wrong shirt, because she just looked "fat" rather than pregnant. (Not actually the case) So, Ronnie comes along and says, "hey, how far along are you?!" A very shocked Meg, said "Oh, I'm so glad you asked, I thought I just looked chubby today, but I'm seven months along." Ronnie: "Oh wow!! you look great for seven months!" Ronnie then goes on to tell us that his wife is fourteen weeks pregnant, and can't wait for a baby! What a nice guy to actually spark a conversation and not act "too cool" for his fans!

"Amy, how often do you get asked to get a picture?"
"Hmm... Never!"
We'll leave that one at that.

Say Hello.... to the new 2008-2009 Jazzbots Family!!

A few months ago, Mal and I made jokes about applying our family for jazzbots.com. For those that don't know, Jazzbots.com is the official fan blogging for the Utah Jazz. There are different categories of bloggers. (An elementary school class, a college student, a family, and a few more.) Well, there's gotta be truth behind ever joke, because two weeks later Mal sent in a background of our family, and before we knew it, we were on to the second round! Well, after a second round, and an interview with the Jazzbots staff at ESA, we are now the Jazzbots family for the 2008-2009 Utah Jazz season!

Besides some being skeptical at first, we are now so excited and can't wait for the season to start! So, if anyone finds out some good Utah Jazz gossip... send it our way! ;)

So this is such old news by now, but I thought I'd post it late rather than never. Deron and Boozer are gold medal champions!!! Memo's always talking about being hungry, but I want Deron and Boozer to be starving for more. I hope their taste of gold has them going to all limits to win, win, win! With the nucleus returning and plenty of talent surrounding them, we have a legitimate chance to contend for the title this year. Only 62 more days til we can get this party started!

Once Michael found out some of the basketball team was cheering him on as he dominated in the lap pool, he figured he ought to pay them back.

How is this guy the man with the most talent, if this is the only thing we ever see him doing... goofing off.

Kobe and Micheal may be the most loved athletes in Beijing, but here at the Meyer household, these are our two favorites.

Hopefully Michael gave these guys some tips on how to win a gold medal seeing as though, they'll be going up against Spain on Saturday for the GOLD!!!

Team USA in Macao

While Deron had a pretty quiet "night" (early morning for me) against Turkey, he played like a beast today against Lithuania. He played so aggressive and was Team USA's best answer to Lithuania's zone defense. He broke it down by charging hard inside, getting a couple 'and ones' along the way. (Now, if he would have just made those free throws...) He also distributed the ball well, handing out a team-high tying 7 dimes. (Chris Paul also handed out 7.) I love watching Deron play on this team.

Now bear with me here--Meyer Jazz talk wants to give a shout out to Mr. LeBron, yes King James. I've always thought LeBron was an enigma in basketball, but watching him on this USA team is unreal. He played so well in his debut against Turkey, and his versatility is unbelievable. At one point he is bringing the ball up the court, and the next time you look he is playing the center position. Just crazy.

And look at this bench led by none other than our own Carlos Boozer. They get more excited than the crowd when D-Wayne Wade throws down a windmill alley-oop or when Dwight "Superman" Howard pounds in a hard dunk. The excitement is fun to see. And it looks like Booze can get comfortable in that cheering position because he's only gotten garbage time in the last two games. Kinda weird to see him in this role, but I think it could be a great experience for him if he keeps his attitude right.

Deron, Boozer & Us in Vegas

I can't say that our whole trip to Vegas was a blast what with the overheated car, broken A/C, Vegas traffic, Vegas heat, and Vegas streets (not to mention the speeding ticket in Iron County), but I can say that it was ALL worth it for the 3+ hours we spent at the Thomas and Mack Center.

We finally arrived at the center about an hour and a half early--perfect timing to see Deron and Carlos emerge as the first players on the court for pre-game shoot-around. We happened to be standing right behind the hoop that Deron was shooting on and we were mesmerized. There was something crazy about watching him shoot on a hoop other than at the ESA. We were standing by a whole herd of Jazz fans and after he finished shooting he came over to sign autographs and even take some pictures. Call so boldly led us down to the court and we asked Deron to take a pic with us. Call chucked her camera at someone and Deron pulled us in for the pic! We were in heaven! After the pic, I told him that we needed to make sure it worked...he started yelling "Check it, Check it, Check it" as he was getting his pic with another fan. Then he came back over to us to follow up with us that we got the picture! What a stud. The best part was that he was wearing his diamond earrings with his warmups.

The second best thing that night was watching Deron and Chris Paul check in at the exact same time midway through the first quarter. I'll admit, I get caught up in the DWILL/CP3 (Or CP13) debate and was anxious to see who would check in first. Much to my surprise, they came in together and controlled the backcourt together for most of their time in. They both ended up playing about half the game, and each played very well! I was so happy for Deron! He and Paul were fun to watch together and they seem to get along so well. My favorite highlight was when Deron had a behind the back dribble breakaway that led to an easy two. Then on the very next possession, Paul had an unbelievable dribble and spin-move that also resulted in a bucket. Deron ran down court cheering him on then gave him a chest bump once he reached him. Do we need to say that we love Deron here at Meyer Jazz Talk?

We can't forget our other Olympian, Carlos BOOzer! I was surprised that so many people in the stands knew to "Boo" him when he entered the game, but then Call and I got a little worried that they were actually boo-ing him without making any reference to his name. We are just going to let our innocent minds believe it was the former scenario, though. Booze didn't play as many minutes as I expected him to, but he did have a sweet block in the final quarter of play! Watching Booze play defense is a little bittersweet, but I hope his defensive play continues through the Olympics and carries over to the Jazz next season. I'm interested to see if he gets more minutes throughout the tournament. I imagine he will, but if not, this could be a humbling experience for Boozer.

Saying Goodbye Shouldn't Be This Easy

But it is. The Jazz have reportedly unloaded Jason Hart to the Clippers in exchange for a veteran point guard named Brevin Knight. I don't know a thing about this new dude, but does it really matter? Anything is better for a roster than Jason Hart.

See you J. Hart. Can't say we'll miss your incredible ability to waste away the shot clock without creating a single shot for anyone then having to throw up a desperation shot(?) in the end. But to dispel the rumor that all Jazz fans are cold and heartless, we do wish Jason Hart the best of luck in his endeavors with the Clips.

And finally, a warm welcome to Brevin Knight!

Deron's wife and two daughters attended his contract press conference last week. Along with the guy who is ALWAYS with Amy at the Jazz games. Finally we have figured out it's Deron's best friend.

Deron's best friend Matt Nitnick, his daughter Daija, his wife Amy, and his other daughter Denae.
The oldest daughter, Denae, looks far older then five years old, and looks exactly like her mother.

Daija seems to be gettin' a little restless, little does she know this conference means her dad is making millions!

On the other hand, Daija is looking exactly like her father!

Needless to say, the Rocky Mountain Revue this year was a disappointment. I guess every year I forgot how frustrating these games are to watch due to the extreme lack of good, organized basketball. Missed layups and dunks, horrible passes, point guards who overestimate their ball handling skills... the list goes on. Mal and I weren't too impressed with neither Fes nor Mo, after the great things we have heard about them. Maybe its cuz we forget Mo had two 50 point games in the D-League not the NBA and Fes looks a little lazy and uncoordinated. But I'm thinking with time Almond will get better. I'm only hoping Fes does. Oh, and the new hair... not a good look!

Mal and I soon realized it was worth our money when we saw two things. A catostrophic dunk, and a former Jazz player.

After Fes dunked the ball, instead of landing on his feet, he somehow (we still wonder just HOW it happened)landed straight on his butt. After some first instinct laughter I felt a little bad I thought it was so funny, but he got up and seemed to shake it off. Sadly, Mal and I consider that a TOP highlight.

The second highlight was watching Mark Eaton walk around the gym and sit by Jerry. With each step, his hip looks more and more like its going to pop right out.

Why is it that when a player is on your team all you can see are his flaws, but once he becomes your opponent all you can see are his strengths? I remember thinking this when GG landed with the Suns in the middle of this season. He was a complete liability for the Jazz with his minimum of 2 travels per game and his total unwillingness to play within the system. Then when he went to the Suns I seemed to only remember how good he was when he played his role as a catch and release shooter. He went from liability to threat in an instant, and I was terrified he would punish the Jazz in their first meeting. Luckily that didn't happen, but he did perform pretty well for the Suns.

I'm starting to feel the same way with CJ. I have never quite made up my mind about how I feel about him, and I was really hesitant about him taking up another roster spot this year if he was just going to sit on the bench again. Now that he is likely going to be with Oklahoma City for the next few years, I can't help but think of him as a huge threat! At least he's not going to a currently competitive team so I guess I don't need to worry just yet. But in a couple of years, things could really get clicking for this new Oklahoma City team.

With all that said, I do think it is time for the Jazz and CJ to part ways. I think Sloan is a great coach, but he does tend to hold grudges against certain players and CJ will surely be in Sloan's doghouse for all of next season. Plus, the Jazz just don't have money to spend on him right now. So it seems to be a better situation for all involved. Let's just hope CJ doesn't light it up against the Jazz next season.

I won't mind looking at that for the next four years (and possibly then some)! Deron has reportedly agreed to a 3-year contract extension with a 4th year player option which will take effect in the 2009-2010 season. Deron is already under contract for the upcoming season so this means we are guaranteed to see Deron in a Jazz jersey for atleast the next 4 years. I don't know about you, but that's definitely something I can get used to.

Tribute to the Bachelor

Morris Almond spilled some fun news on Locked on Sports yesterday--Ronnie Price is getting married next week! Congrats to Ronnie! Let's hope he's marrying a Utah girl who wants him to stay in Utah for a really, really long time.

So I guess it would be fitting to post a little tribute to our man Ronnie P.

Top Five Reasons Jazz Fans Love Ronnie Price:

5. His name makes for easy "Price is Right" poster-making.

4. He is a "hometown" boy.

3. He stuffed Luke Walton like every Jazz fan wanted to.

3. His infamous dunk over Carlos Boozer adds validity to the Jazz-fan-Boozer-hater's argument that Carlos doesn't play defense.

2. His humble nature makes him a great bench player who brings loads of energy off the bench night in, night out.

And the number one reason Jazz fans love Ronnie Price...

1. Because the other option is Jason Hart.

Summer Time Decisions

What is CJ thinking?

Once again, CJ has decided to forego playing in the Rocky Mountain Revue this summer. I know its a "business decision" made by him and his agent, but isn't this guy itching to play basketball??? Even if it is with the rookies and D-Leaguers. It kinda makes me wonder how much of a baller he really is. Sure, he needs to protect himself from injury to protect his "career", but he also needs to get in some playing time if he wants to attract interest from other teams and truly have a career. I've always waffled back and forth on CJ--but this definitely puts him on my bad side. And worse for him, I'm sure it puts him on Sloan's bad side as well.

SLC Shout-Out

With all the free-agent talk in the NBA right now, a Jazz fan has to wonder who we can possibly land here in SLC. Our wonderful city has been described as "Free-agent Hell" since it seems no NBA baller really wants to come here. The Jazz have had to survive on drafts and trades. Maybe that could change with one man's contract.

Deron Williams. Now who wouldn't want to play with one of the best point guards in the league, a player who is determined to get his teammates the ball and one who wants nothing more than to win? And as if his talent isn't enough to convince someone to come, he has also added his own little plug for Utah's big city.

"I like it here," Deron says. "It's peaceful, the weather's good. I like to golf. It's unbearable to golf [in the summer] in Dallas. My wife loves it here. It's not like there's nothing to do."

As a Jazz fan, I absolutely love that Deron has made Salt Lake his year round home. I'm anxious for him to sign, and hope he plays for the Jazz for his whole NBA career!

So while I was bored at work, I decided I'd see if I could find anything to suggest that Chauncey pulled out because he was informed he wasn't going to make Team USA. David Locke on KFAN suggested this was most likely the case--that he was given the opportunity to pull out before the roster was officially named in order to save face and endorsements.

Here's what I found: There is a convo between Locke and Deron on thefansports.com where Deron tells Locke that Colangelo called him on Tuesday, June 17th while he was golfing at some high-profile tourney at Thanksgiving Point. (Which my roommate went to by the way, riding in the Miller's cart. She totally could have been chummy with Deron but she didn't even know he was there. Maybe its the beard. Missed opportunity :( ). Anyway, sportsillustrated.com says that Chauncey pulled out on Tuesday evening. I had heard (and this is all heresay of course) that Colangelo was calling people all last week letting them know if they were on the roster or not. Based on this information, I'm guessing that Locke is right--Deron was in fact selected for the team before Chauncey decided to drop out, and Chauncey dropped out before the announcement was officially named! I think Chauncey is great and am sure that his playoff injury had something to do with him getting cut, but I love Deron even more and am so glad that he earned this in his own right! Not that I ever doubted Deron, or Locke for that matter. Deron's got the strength and skills to contribute to Team USA and Locke is just the man in the Utah sports scene!

Go Team USA!!! Anyone interested in watching them play Canada in Vegas at the end of their mini-camp?

Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer are going to Beijing!! Deron was a part of the USA team last year, whereas Booze stepped down to care for his wife and family. It will be nice to see them back in action--on the same team!!

Something kinda interesting: I was listening to David Locke on KFAN last week and he was talking about the whole Chauncey Billups pull-out situation. (And this is nothing against Chauncey because we love him in the Meyer household by the way). But Locke was pretty confident that Colangelo and the USA basketball team committee contacted Chauncey to let him know that he wasn't going to make it, and they would give him the opportunity to pull-out before making the public announcements about who would make the team. This would allow Chauncey to save his pride and any possible endorsements that this could affect. Locke seemed confident that this was the case. So anyone thinking Deron made it by luck, think again. Deron is the man and his size and strength are going to be a great assett to the USA team!

The 2008 team will be Jason Kidd, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Dwayne Wade, Kobe Bryant, Michael Redd, Tayshaun Prince, Carmelo Anothony, Lebron James, Chris Bosh, Carlos Boozer, and Dwight Howard.

Let's be serious here, have you really been a lifelong fan of the team you are now rooting for in the NBA Finals? I know there are many life-long Celtic/Laker fans, but we seem to think this picture pretty well sums up this years Finals. What's even funnier is I'm guilty of it too. I've never loved the celtics, but seeing as they're playing the Lakers I now love them! Besides the fact that there is still a lot of basketball to be played, wasn't it kinda nice to see a rather frustrated Kobe on Sunday?!

You've got to be very happy for Powe. After having a 'spotlight night' at halftime, he sold his story with an AMAZING game!

And, you've gotta love the relationship between these two!

I've been watching Eastern Conference basketball because I really like the Pistons. (Thanks Call for introducing me to them.)

I like Gregg Popovich. I've never wanted to admit ever liking anything about the Spurs, but now that they're playing the Lakers, I'm a Spurs fan for now so I can confess this. I like the way Pop plays with line-ups throughout the season. I like that he'll call immediate time-outs. I like the way he outcoached D'Antoni in the first series. I like that he'll say things like the Game 1 loss "Hurt like Hell" or "Pull your pants down if you have to" to Barry in
reference to getting Duncan to notice him wide open on the wing.

I love watching Chris Paul--he's a beast. I thought he was overrated before because I only saw him play against Deron who knows how to really shut him down. Plus, I didn't want to give him any credit because of the whole debate between he and Deron. However, as I watched him through the playoffs, I could no longer deny it. His teammates also speak so highly of the person he is. For example, he shares the same birthday as Tyson Chandler's little girl and they celebrated their birthdays together just a couple weeks ago by going to the zoo! CP3 at the zoo on his birthday? Classy...

I think Rajan Rondo is hot.

I love that Tony and Eva are married. She makes a Spurs jersey look classy.

Its really hard to put up a post after a loss. Its funny how after a win, I'm so energized I find myself up til 1 am squeezing picture after picture onto the blog. Wish I could do that today, but the enthusiasm just isn't there.

But rather than focus on the elimination, I have to say that this has been a fun year! I was totalling it up and I ended up going to 18 regular season games and 2 playoff games, only eye-witnessing one loss all season! (Boston loss, btw). So thanks to the Jazz for the many good times this season. Thanks for creeping into our family and always giving us something to talk about. Despite sometimes causing fights when opinions clash (i.e., Mom's harshness on Memo midseason, Dad's relentless love for Derek Fisher, Hugh's overconfidence in Collin's abilities, and Uncle Chad's unexplainable love for Jason Hart;) ), the Jazz have mostly brought many fun, memorable, bonding moments for our family. We LOVE you Utah Jazz!

I thought I would maybe highlight what I consider to be key moments this 2007-2008 season:

Ronnie Brewer emerges as one of the league's most improved players. His finishing around the basket has brought a lot of excitement into the ESA.

Ronnie Price gets the opportunity to back Deron up as Hart sits out due to injury. He rightfully earns the job for the rest of the season.

Sloan sends Giri to the locker room during a game, and he doesn't return to the lineup. Kyle Korver comes to take his place and boy does he fit into our demographics.

Deron gets snubbed for the All-Star game yet again and has a breakout game against the Hornets right after. He solidifies himself as one of the best point guards in the league.

Deron wins the skills challenge during All-Star Break Weekend.

As if I didn't already love him enough, I meet Ronnie Brewer after the Pistons game and really fall in love with him! I rubbed his head and told him he is the best. He, along with the guy in the passenger seat really get a kick out of it.

Dad, Call, and I go to the Pesky Wolves game thinking it might be our last time in the 3rd row J&S seats. Call and I want to soak it all up so we attempt to take advantage of everything the ESA has to offer. We slap hands with the players as they run through the tunnel to enter the court. We get pics with DJ and Pace. And most importantly, we ALMOST get our picture with Yeliz Okur. After the game, I take Call's pic with Mo, Sloan, Price, Korver, Brewer and Milsap. Also, this is the night Dad starts to really like Brewer because he sees how personable he is with everyone.

Deron takes a hard foul from Carmelo Anthony at the ESA as the regular season is winding down. Fans, players, coaches see their future flash before their eyes.

Deron is named to the 2nd All NBA team. Boozer is named to the 3rd.

The Jazz steal not 1, but 2 games in Houston to come home up 2-0.

The Jazz beat the Rockets in 6 and hold Tracy to his vow to never get out of the first round.

The Jazz fight hard to win two games in Utah to force the Lakers to head back home all tied up.

Deron praises the teams nucleus and staff assuring us that the future looks bright!

Man, doing this has really helped with the enthusiasm. I'm already excited for next year to start! It's bittersweet though, because I am also kinda excited for the break. Getting emotionally involved with a team can really take a toll. Call looked at me last night and said it was weird because she felt a little relieved. I knew exactly what she meant. I don't know how many more fourth quarters we could handle. We were willing to do as many as it takes, but the release of pressure is nice. It will last about a day, and then we'll wish we could see some blue and white on the tube again. I'm looking for many seasons to come though! I love you Jazz! Enjoy the summer!

The Price is Right!

No doubt about it-Ronnie Price was the player of the game! Taking a hard foul from Ronnie Turriaf and recieving 4 stitches above the eye didn't keep Price from playing some amazing basketball. He came back into the game, took it hard to the basket, put the ball in the hoop, and converted his free throw for a three point play, leading us to victory. Let's not forget his AMAZING play of the game. After missing a shot at the offensive end of the floor, the ball was lobbed to Luke Walton at the other end, who had an easy break away bucket. As Luke hesitated, Price took advantage and raced up to pick up a CLEAN block. And yes, that's a 6'1 player stuffing a 6'8 player.

Well, maybe Ronnie felt he had to let his name be heard after an ABC reporter said, "Now let's go down to Lisa Saunders who has an update on that inured jazz player."

Ya think Dr. Matt's been learning from his wife?!

Come on Kobe, I know the back is hurtin' but couldn't you pass to some of your teammates who were shooting extremely well? Oh yeah, sorry i forgot, you're the MVP.

Watching the bench up on their feet is the BEST sight to see! I don't think I will ever get the image of Deron pounding his hands together cheering on his back-up point guard out of my head.

Memo was... CLUTCH!! Like Ronnie B. said, "That's why we call him money!" Memo started OT with two HUGE back-to-back long jumpers. He picked up a technical, but that extra point that went to the Lakers was almost worth it, just to see Memo showing his emotions. :)

Kobe could use some tips from Will Smith in the acting department. When he took it hard to the basket, driving in to the lane, I didn't see him wince once! But rather, only when he air-balled, or when he got stuffed by AK. I thought you couldn't cut like you wanted to, or drive like you wanted to with that bad back, shouldn't we see you wince a little then?!

And shouldn't we all have known this would be a great one when Memo brought the Ferrari out?!

Come on Utah! We can do this! Show us this great energy in Game 5! Just don't tear our hearts out, cuz we're pretty attached! ;)

A GREAT Mother's Day!

Not only did the jazz win one for us today-update on that tomorrow!- but Mallory and I feel we were pretty smart shoppers this Mother's Day! :)

While watching our Mom cheer her guts out for Kyle Korver in the fourth quarter of the game today, we couldn't help but realize we got her THE BEST gift! She was so pleased, but went ballistic when she saw it was signed by the one and only! :)

And for the newest jazz fan of the family... The day after Meg told us she was pregnant, we raced to fanzz to pick up a dwill jersey for baby Van Wagenen! (Just to make sure that was the very first outfit for the baby!)

BOOZE IS BACK!

And so is the pick and roll! And what a blessing! Booze: 27 points, a personal 6-0 run in the crucial fourth quarter, 20 boards, 3 assists, taking it to the hoop, muscling through crowds for loose balls, and all over the court. Exactly what we needed from Booze. Here's what he had to say.

“I just tried to stop thinking so much out there. I think we’ve all been waiting for such a big game out of me and I’ve been waiting for it too. And putting a little too much pressure on myself, so I tried to go back to the basics and just have fun out there, enjoy the game, play with more passion, and try to stay out of foul trouble.”

As great as Booze played, in no way was last night a one man show. Earning ESPN best honor's for last's night performance, Memo needs an extra shout out for his incredible play on both ends of the court. He frustrating Gasol on the defensive end, and hit some MONEY shots for our offense. We love you Memo! Memo has been the steady hand throughout the series for the Jazz. Keep it up Memo!

This blog wouldn't be complete without a word on Deron Williams. Jerry Sloan commented on how poised of a player Deron always seems to be, and he definitely showed that tonight. He took advantage of Fisher's early foul trouble, and then continued to attack even with Fish on the floor. Even with his great performance tonight, I'm looking for an even bigger game from him on Sunday!

Come on Jazz! Let's tie this series up!

I might have to bring back my joke from last year in this Lakers series. The Jazz ended last regular season playing only 3 of 4 quarters in nearly every game. They have done the same to begin round 2 against the Lakers.
Here goes.
What's the difference between the Utah Jazz and a gambler with 75 cents?
Answer: The gambler might play more than 3 quarters.
The Jazz wouldn't be down 2-0 if they didn't have to play from behind practically the entire game. Game 1 we decided not to play the second quarter and Game 2 we decided not to play the first. It goes without saying, that can't happen if we are to win a ballgame.

I have to spotlight a few individuals:

Paul Milsap--And One

Milsap kept us in the game for most of that first half. He was the only one not intimidated by the Lakers inside as he took it hard to the hoop. I think he may have been the only one to shoot free throws in that first half. And he was making the buckets! We're proud of you Paul! Way to keep us in there. It really makes me question why Sloan isn't turning more to Milsap since Booze has disappeared. Booze's early foul trouble was probably a blessing in disguise tonight. Its sad that I was actually glad he had the fouls because it forced Sloan to work outside the usual rotation and play hard-nosed Milsap some extra minutes.

Kyle Korver--Dunk Master?

I had to laugh to myself when Kyle dunked the ball. I mean, he's got inside game but he usually puts up a soft and oh so precise lay-up. I loved how he mixed up his game tonight. Should Sloan have gone to Kyle earlier in the second half? Another one of those hard questions to answer.

Deron Williams-- The Real Dunk Master

Sorry Kyle, you would have won dunk of the night, but Deron decided to snap out of his timid play and take it to the hole. That dunk was unreal. I loved it. Looking at Deron's stats it seems like he had a pretty good game. But what those stats don't show is that he was completely afraid of Fish in the first half. He played great in the second half--just a little too late. Also compounded by the fact that no one else was really on board with him.

The Officials--Not exactly to blame

I hate to blame a game on officials so I'm not going to. We CLEARLY got outplayed and its not the officials fault. With that said, please stop calling fouls on our players when Kobe hooks! Yes, I understand Kobe is a superstar and will get calls his way. But I'm not even asking you to call the hooking fouls. All I'm asking is that you don't call the fouls on US when he hooks. Just doesn't make much sense. Kobe still gets his treatment by not calling the foul on him, and it allows us to actually put a man on him. I'm really interested to see what kind of fouls get called on our homecourt.

By the way, many people will look at the free throw shots taken and claim it was very unbalanced officiating. While I do agree that no calls were going our way, I think the more important factor is that the Lakers were the aggressor and the Jazz were the cowardly lions who were afraid to go to Oz--aka the hoop.

Kobe Bryant--PR Warning

This is a warning: Everyone must know that Kobe has one of the best PR managers in the business. I ALMOST found myself thinking that Kobe is great all of sudden as his kids have been in the spotlight with him--sitting on laps at press conferences, kisses on the court, tickling in the tunnel. Don't let this trick you, because it almost tricked me. His PR guy is behind this all to make him look like the sweetest guy. But what does Kobe do when his PR guy isn't around? He blows off his guns, waves his jersey, flies around like superman, and taunts fans. When his agent isn't around, he acts like the immature high schooler that he always will be.

And PS. Yes, I think Kobe has had a great year, but if I have to hear one more time how much he has learned to "be unselfish" and "trust his teammates" I am going to barf. I don't think passing the ball to a player 1 centimeter from the rim has much to do with "trusting his teammates." Its simply smart basketball. I guess another reason Kobe should have gone to college. Maybe the MVP trophy would have come a little sooner had he taken the time to learn a few simple things in college.

Carlos Boozer--Now or Never

Come on Booze. We need you NOW! If there ever was a time for you to step up and get some glory (which we know you love), its now. You have led us to wins all year and we need it now. Please don't shy away in the playoffs. Deron can't do it alone, and nor do you want him to! Its time to face up to the pressure. We know you are capable of it now LET'S GO! SEE YOU FOR GAME 3!

Game 1: Second Round

I'm pretty sure this is how Jerry Sloan's class' role taking would go after game one of the second round. Memo, along with D-Will, is present and alert. AK's that kid in class that who was just told roll was going to be taken yet when their name is called, they just can't figure out why. Ronnie B. is full of energy and ready to dive in. While Booze is, well let's say... nearly absent.

In game 1 of the second round, we started out great, but then came the ugly second quarter... Utah cleaned up their game and played a grea second half. Reguardless of the fact that we lost, as fans we have to be happy with the fight they put up!

MEMO: THE REBOUND BEAST! If it weren't for Memo, I don't even want to know how far behind we would have been. You gotta love this guy- he works his butt off in there. And I think everyone would agree, its hilarious to see him get all riled up! And, as he says, "I do what I do out there, I stay hungry!" :)

Without fail, every game, Ronnie B. comes to play. He gives every ounce of effort he has every night! He's everywhere- diving for loose balls, grabbing offensive rebounds, trying his best to annoy Kobe- he does it all!

Near the end of the game, Deron drove into the lane and softly laid the ball up, after which the ball just hung on the back of rim. Just as Deron said, "That pretty much summed up the game." Nobody had a great shooting night, but I have full confidence that everyone will come out aggresive on Wednesday. (Hopefully, including out allstar!)
Where are ya Booze?!? Come on, we NEED you!

Congrats Utah!

Congratulations Utah for advancing to round two! Game six was so fun to watch (but probably only for Jazz fans)! Booze was right--they had no need to worry about the offense heading into this game. Utah finally got to play at their pace and displayed great execution. Loved the hustle. Go Jazz!

Did I call it that Deron would be the engine of this win? Okay, that wasn't really going out on a limb, but boy it was great to see him play like that. He was really feeling it, and I love it when he shoots in rhythm! Congrats D-Will for achieving ESPN Daily Best Honors!

All that's left to be said is Bring on the Lakers! I did not want to face the Lakers in any round, especially not in the second round, but who wants to play them? T-h-e-y a-r-e p-l-ay-ing gr-eat ba-sk-etb-all. Man, that was hard to spit out. I struggle to admit that, but I guess it has to be said. Yes, I'm a Kobe hater and a Laker hater, but noone can deny the kind of basketball they are playing right now. I'm dissappointed to see that ESPN's John Hollinger, who is possibly the Jazz's biggest supporter in the national press, has flipped his vote and now says Lakers in 6. I hope we can prove him wrong. I think the Jazz like proving people wrong, so let's take this challenge! GO JAZZ GO!

Where there's a D-Will there's a Way...

Kyle Korver called the effort terrible and Deron Williams called it frustrating. Yep, the two best words I could use to describe the last game. Why is it that the Jazz tease us as they do, playing phenomenal one day, then terrible the next? You have to be almost jealous of Phoenix fans because their team just legitimately sucked and walked away. But the Jazz send me on an emotional roller coaster, with great games then terrible games. Its rough, but I only said I was ALMOST jealous. I'm still glad the Jazz have fought hard against a Houston team that has been overlooked all season. And they have a chance to close the series out at home. As David Locke has pointed out, what more could we ask for? So I'm looking forward to some phenomenal ball tomorrow night! The Jazz are due for some. The Jazz just really need something to get the offense rolling. I have faith that they can! Don't let us down D-Will.

Speaking of D-Will, where would we be without Deron Williams? Man, he is the MVP of our team and a true all-star in the league. I love his pass-first mentality and his incredible ability to take over games. Too bad he has been getting no assists because no one is making any shots. I trust that Deron is going to find a way to get the offense going tomorrow night against Houston's incredible defense. Yes, their defense was incredible last game. But it seems Deron wants to win more than anyone. He was visibly shaken after last game's pounding, and as a fan, you like to see that. I have a feeling he's ready for tomorrow's game. And after the jab he took from lazy-eye T-Mac, I hope he's more than fired up.

Game 4 brings excitement back to Utah!

At the end of the fourth quarter, when the Jazz offense seemed to be falling apart, D-Will took the game on himself and once again showed the league- he is a superstar!

Ronnie Brewer played nothing short of a great game. Making little mistakes, he made it hard on Tracy McGrady and brought great energy to the team!

Oh, and don't forget Memo's crucial rebound he pulled away from T-Mac and Laundry, after D-Will missed two free throws.
"He saved my butt," Williams said. "I owe him. I'm going to buy him a car or something."

Just keep complainin T-Mac. . . you'll go no where.

Don't worry T-Mac, once he finishes with you, you'll know who Deron Williams is.

The Jazz knew they just HAD to put up a good fight when they found out their greatest fans would be in the house ;)

Game 2: X-Factor

So who is the worst road team in the league? Certainly not the Utah Jazz. The MVP of Game 1 was unquestionably Andrei Kirilenko. And Game 2's MVP? I give it to the Jazz's bench led by Ronnie Price. Outscoring Houston's bench by 9, the Jazz bench showed up to play and added so much energy when they entered the game. Price played incredible with a couple of key 3's, a blocked shot and a huge steal to go with it! Not to mention Korver's unconventional one handed dagger to seal the game. (We won't mention the previous shot that hit the backboard.) Millsap hustled as always, and its nice to finally see him getting some calls his way.

And lets not forget our little Heart-attack and Sharon Collins. They may not have played on the court, but they were difference makers on the bench. Someone has to step in for the Jazz dancers/cheerleaders while we are away, and they did just that. It's so fun to see the bench getting into it!

Well, welcome home Jazz! Can't wait to see the energy tomorrow night!

A WHOLE NEW AK?
As shown in Game 1, Andrei Kirilenko has matured greatly in the past year. Exactly one year ago, in Houston Texas, AK was not paticularly happy with his role as a player on the team. Well, lets just say he was a mess last year during the first round of playoffs.

Booze summed it up best, "He was MVP of the game, he gave us a huge lift." After finishing the game with 21 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 blocked shot, a rather cheerful AK said, "If we win the game and we're not running plays for me-thats OK, too. That's fine with me."

Not to mention, we knew the game was bound to go well when we saw Booze on the ground early, diving for loose balls and picking up some steals.

After a remarkably well fought game, Jazz win it 93-82.

You can be the boss, but I'm in charge...

I used to tell my sister "You can be the boss, but I'm in charge." I didn't really care about the title of "boss" as much as I cared about making all the decisions, running the show...you know, just being in charge.

I can see a sort of flip-flop situation with the Utah Jazz leadership. I think there is someone on the team who is more concerned with the title of leadership than actually leading the team.

Booze seems obsessed with making sure the media, fans, etc know that he is the leader. He's always talking about being the leader, or saying things like "as the best player on the team..." I'll give him credit that he does usually include Deron in his "leadership" talks, but still. Would you have to vocalize it so much if you were confident that everyone already knows it from your qualities shown on the court?

On the other hand, Deron doesn't talk much about it...if at all. Deron doesn't care about popularity from fans or media or what anyone is thinking of him. He just wants to go out there, play basketball, make the decisions, and you know, just be in charge.

So I guess the saying in the locker room might go
Boozer: "Hey DWill, can I be the boss?"
Williams:"Sure man, as long as I'm in charge."

Welcome to the blogging world of Mallory and McCall Meyer. Thoughout the whole Utah Jazz season we have vocalized our thoughts about the Jazz to each other, but as the 2008 NBA Playoffs grew nearer (and are now about to start) we couldn't talk through texting any longer!
